Later this morning, I’ll interview the athletic director of Cherry Hill East, John.
In Postmodern Interviewing, Jaber F. Gubrium writes ” … interviewing provides a way of generating empirical data about the social world by asking people to talk about their lives (67).” When I scheduled the interview with John on the phone, I asked if we could just chat about what he does as an athletic director. He laughed when I said this (I’m assuming he does quite a bit). I want to cover topics like legal issues, player safety, finances, the larger role of athletics in the mission of secondary education and whatever else comes up. I hope to do so by suggesting “linkages to, diverse aspects of respondent[‘s] experience (75).”
I’m going to do my best to let John do most of the talking, but I will keep him engaged trough the interview. Wish me luck!
